White tango dress - part 1

E. and I are doing an improvised Argentin Tango at our wedding next week, and I have searched everywhere for a suitable white dress. I turn out to be a bit hung up on it being white, on account of being the bride. The first thought was 'there are so many white summer dresses, I surely don't need to make my own'.
So I tried:
white dorothy Perkins dress (unflattering)
the populair tunic style (skirt is not wide enough to work for tango leg work)
This one didn't work at the hips and the skirt is too narrow:

I ordered retro dress from www.topvintage.nl, but this one was too long:

I tried a couple more but ended up with not finding something that would work. I went through all tango websites and (suprise!) they rarely make items in white. I ended up going to the fabric market last week, buying 4 meters of off white lycra/cotton tricot to make my own. *ahum* and 4 meters of white, because I wasn't sure what color I liked best *ahum*.
I want a dress that is flattering at the top and on the bottom. Since my body is normal sized at the top and a bit heavier at the hips, my idea is to have a halter top that visually draws the eye towards the shoulders. SOme ruching details around the bust and tummy to cover up my belly. The waist must be defined, and the skirt should be wide at the bottom so it can flre out dramatically with spins and legwork. I want the dress to smooth over my hips and not add bulk in that area.
Onward to searching the internet for free patterns and tutorials! I quickly wished that the internet was around when I was a teenager because there is somuch information available nowadays! I quickly got sidetracked by many cute patterns of all types of dresses. I like view C of this Burda pattern:

But then more in a halter style:

And how cute is this?

I ended up drafting my own pattern based on a summer dress that I have lying around and some good old common sense. Yesterday I made the pattern and cut the pieces. I even assembled most of the dress and it is coming out great except for the off white lycra being very sheer. I need to line it. The top part consist of a halter top made of two pieces, attached to a yoke between waist and underbust.

To give you a clue, this iswhat the front part looks like:

Once the dress is done, I want to ad godets to the skirt to crete more width. I am thinking of the godets with a slight point draping down:

This is coming along nicely, I hope to add more pictures tomorrow when it is done.
