ballet update
Dec. 2nd, 2009 12:09 pmBallet is doing okay, we're digging into deeper stuff with the choreography. Each class we work on a medium tempo piece that includes plie/pas de bourre/several positions. Then on to an Adagio with port de bras/attittude/ turns. On to diagonal excercise for steps and turns. By now we go straight into a folcloric combination. Well, as folcloric as you can get with ballet. Very fast, and due to missing last weeks class it took me two turns to get back into the combination.
I feel less clumsy during class now that I have energy left to see that the others are struggeling too. we di the put your foot on the barre thing- again, making me feel more flexible in the hipflexors then I expected. My biggest pitfalls: not using my abs all the time, slouching (have to lift ribcage!). Turn out is growing on me. I have had no belly dance revelations so far and by a quick look at a taped practice session on monday, posture is still mweh. I believe that my mind and body enjoy being challenged in a completely different type of dance and most of all, it's fun!
I didn't write about our teacher yet: she obviously trained to be a professional dancer, she's 35ish I think. Has a streamlined curvy body and a pleasant way of explaining moves. Corrections are given individually and I tend to mess up extra when she's correcting me, it's nice to have a bit of personal attention in every class. Her voice is melodic and at times sharp and she speaks with a upperclass intonation of someone who is thouroughly educated. She makes me feel secure and comfortable in class, despite me running in late for the last classes and having to join the barre in the middle of the room.
