Short Oum Kolthoum update
Sep. 25th, 2011 09:38 amWent to two Aziza workshops, Fluidity and improv. Never get tired of Aziza's workshops, I want to take them over and over again! Noticed I've grown. yay!
Oum Kolthoum project went well, we got the whole front row crying their eyes out by the end of the 41 minutes and not because we did some bad chicken fusion thing. We (the dancers) have been crying too, as one of us got an injury during the dress rehearsal on friday and we had to go to the ER to get it checked out. We missed her dearly on stage.
An Iraqi reporter loved the performance so much that he searched for Ahlem (the organizer) in the dark theater and kept asking her if he could videotape it so he could show it to other people. She ofcourse said yes, him being arabic and of the press and everything. This is me crossing my fingers that invites us to perform at the Iraqi embassy.
Aziza did the most amazing fusion piece ever. For those of you who've seen Black Swan, remember the scene where she grows wings? At one moment I seriously thought Aziza's arms would sprout feathers and she'd fly away. Amazing, powerful stuff, a fusion piece done on Canadian Cello music. Fangirl squee: we shared a glass of proseco with her afterwards in the greenroom :)
Today I'm taking Aziza's masterclass and I want to stay around for the evening show. It includes some more thought provoking performances and a longer show by Aziza. Also, one of my coworkers signed up for the workshop weekend on my recommendation and now she's seen me dance. I wonder how our conversation will go tomorrow at work.
