Dance: when you least expect it
Oct. 9th, 2014 11:45 amMy beginners group was cancelled, Roos only had three people but she continued because she teaches from the studio of her mother. Hadyr had three students. Not many people want to start a new hobby right now.
But! I received two inquiries for a performance and both of them went through. One on October 25th, which is also the day that I dance on the open stage at From Cairo With Love in Amsterdam. The other one is for a performance in June 2015 from a bride who likes to plan in advance. Score! It will be tedious to go from Amsterdam to Random Rural Place on the same evening and I will miss the gala show, but I wasn't excited about the line up anyway. Another good excuse to practice more.
In my head I feel like arofessuonal dancer. A paid gig like this is something that has higher priority than paying to watch a show. I don't need the money but I need the excitement of preparing for my performance, of dancing in front of an audience, seeing happy faces of people. The idea that all the money and time that I spend on dance can be valued and appreciated by people. I like to do paid gigs as it makes me feel like I am working. I need different skills for public performances compared to community events and I like it.
