With everything that's going on at my work, there is also fun stuff happening that I'd like to share. Otherwise I'll read my journal in a couple of years, thinking everything was about my work and such. The good thing is that there is still dance to be enjoyed, friends to hang out with and new stuff to learn and discover.

Friday: Going out in Amsterdam
It's been ages since I went out in Amsterdam, to a gothic party in a squatted building app. 10 years ago. I have never officially gone out in Amsterdam 'the normal way' so when my friend Rachel told me she has now permanently moved from Tilburg to Amsterdam and invited me, I immediately followed up with a proposition for a date. I went to her place, a really cute subbasement studio smack in the center, next to a canal. We talked and had a couple of white wines, then walked to leidseplein and visited a couple of bars. All I can say is that going to bars is so not my thing, but it was fun to try it for a change. The next morning we got us some breakfast, put the table and chairs outside on the sidewalk and chilled. It was awesome, next time I'll make sure that I have time to stay longer.

Saturday: Bellydance hafla in Zeist
My students performed the Isis Wings choreography to Yearning and I did a fanveil piece to Anna Vissi's Miserlou. One of my students cancelled last minute due to circumstances and I had to fill in, I think I they did great. My fanveil piece was totally improvised and welcomed by much praise (phew!). I haven't had much time to dance in the past half year or so, but it seems my drills for hands and arms are starting to pay off, even if I do those drills on my commute or when I'm behind my desk and on the phone. It was a lovely night, great performances and afterwards time to dance!! Extra fun was had because Michelle, Gijs and Agaath came to see me. The first two being my coworkers in The Hague that I have lunch with. Michelle slept at my place and we had good girl talk at that time of night when you know you should go to bed, but it is too much fun to go to sleep so you stay up and tell eachother things that should stay a secret between you forever.

Sunday: Oum Kolthoum Project - practice
I totally let this one slide so dance wise so I was in bad practice shape. We redid the second half of the dance and worked on refining parts of the first half. It is done! Our next performance is on April 9th, and we have three performances in June. So yeah, heavy schedule!

Other things that are happening right now:
- BD classes are doing great, I love the two groups and attendance is very high this semester.
- One of my beginner students from a couple of years back reappeared and asked if I could teach a bellydance workshop at her riding school. Mainly because BD classes is helping her a great deal with her posture and posture is very important in horseback riding. I was already planning on taking up horseback riding (because I have soooo many free hours to fill... ehm...wait...) and this is a great opportunity to connect the two.
- Speaking of taking up new hobbies, I'm getting my diving certification in the next couple of months, I will be in the swimmingpool a lot in april/may and scuba diving outdoors in june.
-and I'm continuing my ballet classes on Teusday. I've missed some, but I'm still slowly progressing.
- Badminton at work turns out to be a real treat, and I have the tactical and strategic skills to make it fun. I'm sometimes a bit frustrated at missing the most obvious opportunities and not hitting the shuttle at all. I sort of feel that the other players appreciate my effort and like to watch my learn despite me not geting it right.

And in general news, people are happy with me at my work, so I expect that my contract will be prolonged in June. Right now I need the distraction of learning new things to keep me going. I notice that I don't have the energy to invest extra time in dance, next to the commitments that I already made. There are several festivals in the summer but the program made me go meh. I expect that my dance drive will return at the end of this year or at the start of 2013 but for now I'm more into exploring and learning other things.
