Belly dance update
Jan. 15th, 2014 02:11 pm1. Belly dance championship
Europe is a little bit behind with regards to belly dance contests, but we are catching up. This year is the 6th edition of th Benelux championships (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg) and the 7th edition of the Dutch belly dance championships. Since we did a bad job during our performance in Groningen, I thought a challenge might be good and suggested that we sign up.
Fakyma is probably participating in the Benelux championship on March 16th, though we are better known as The Dalla Dream Dancers. Things are tiny over here: there have been a lot of people signing up for solo's, but not that many for groups. The dedicated time for dancing is also really short:
Solo: 1.45-2.15 for quarter and semi finals, 2-3 minutes for the finals.
Duo: 1.00-1.30 in the first rounds, 2.15 max for the final round
Group: 1.30-2.00 first rounds, 3.00 max for the final round
We'll discuss the music editing next time and in the meantime we are working on tightening our group choreography. I haven't even dared to watch the video of our last performance yet... The competition will be judged by some of my international dance friends so we'd better be good on stage!
2. Weekly classes
I got some of my mojo back during the Christmas holiday and had a good first class in 2014. I also will give one free class at the end of the semester to attract new students, our student recital is on February 2th and both groups are ready and prepared (thank god). The choreography is okay, I went easy on myself this semester.
3. hafla's!
I'll be performing at the hafla in Zeist in April and Arya told me about a possible theater belly dance show in Utrecht in June that she'd like me to perform at. Enough reason to get my act together and create some new solo pieces.
How the hell do I manage all these things? Something I might wonder about in a decade or later so I want to write it down for posterity. My current weekly schedule:
