Baby's first fever
Aug. 7th, 2016 06:49 pmOn Wednesday the daycare center called around 10.30. Eliza had a fever and we picked her up and brought her home. She was burning up and she wanted to hug Eduard or me all the time. It broke my heart to see her like that.
The nights have been hard as she doesn't sleep well. The fever subsided on Thursday during the day and she was happily playing during the day.
But the fever returned in the night and we worried again. As it went down in the morning we felt okay about my mother taking care of her during the day. She wasn't acting like she used to and after three 'o clock she didn't go back to sleep and kept on crying.
We decided to go to the emergency GP and arrived at half past nine. At that point Eliza found the new place and weird smells so fascinating that she was energetic and inquisitive. But she could not hide the huge under eye bags that had been building up. The physician checked her lungs, nose, ears and throat and diagnoses it as pseudo-kroep. That's a throat infection, to be treated by using steam to soften the pain in the throat. Other than that we'll have to wait.
On Friday night I suggested E slept on the couch so he would get some sleep, which was a good plan. She is now free of fever, still clingy and with a weird sound in the throat and with crying spells, but it is getting better. We spend about half an hour in the shower with the hot water running, about four to six times a day and it seems to be working.
I was afraid she would have something really bad and die. I am in favor of vacinating and she already had all her shots but I'm still afraid. How do anti-vaccers live with themselves? How can they stand by, watch their babies get sick and still be okay with not vaccinating? Do thy mistakenly believe that their child won't die of meningitis or whooping cough?
My nephew in law is expecting his first child and he is surrounded by anti-vax idiots. I did a bit of fact checking to tell them off. Before vaccines, one in five children died of diseases we can niw prevent. One in five. Wow.
