Italian family

Has a lot of family in Italy that he is not very familiar with. his father emigrated to the Netherlands to marry his motherinm the seventees and the contact with the Italian aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces was something for the summer holiday. They live in the North of Italy, where the mountains meet the plains. No maffia (that's more prominent in South Italy, Sicily and such), not much cultural highlights (go to Rome and Venice for culture). Think delicious food, close and complicated families and the tendency to yap away while using big hand and arm gestures.
His aunt Antoinetta and uncle Paulo are currently visiting his dad, and we met them yesterday at the house of E.'s brother. It was nice, due to knowing a bit of French and Latin I could sort of follow the conversation. E, his brother and father all speak a bit of Italian so they carried the conversation. We're connected on facebookd, making it easier to find topics for conversation. They find our dog adorable, their own dog has heart trouble but it doing great. They congratulated us on our marriage, we invited them through the mother of the family but due to some people not being on speaking terms, they didn't know they were invited. Insert long story about how every family member is doing and who is talking to who, sleeping with who or offending who.
It was nice to see certain aspects that I think of as 'typical E.' being more of an Italian family thing. He invited them over to our place this Friday. I won't be there on account of being in Belgium for four days of workshops with Ava Fleming. He's going to show them around Utrecht and show them where we live. Compared to his brother, our house is rather plain but I had the feeling his aunt and uncle are fine with that.
