Burlesque workshop review

mekyriaIt was fun. We arrived first because I needed to pump before the ws. Right in the middle, the workshop teacher came in. Her stage name is Cerise Noir and she got into burlesque when she was seventeen. Her grandmother was a burlesque dancer in the Lido in Amsterdam, back in the days. She showed us the bedazzled thong her gramdmother used to wear. How's that for family heirlooms!
She proceeded in telling us a bit about the history of burlesque, mentioning different styles and teaching us the bump and grind. The moves were all big and looked painful to the spine and knees. When asked about injuries, she told us injuries are common and she does an extensive warming up and cooling down. She looked like she was 22 so her body might still compensate the damage.
We started out with a twenties style choreography that included a lot of grinding. Our group was eleven people, half of them bellydancers so we quickly got a grip on the big grinding hip circle.
We proceeded with 'glove stripping', the kind of stripping most women are comfortable with in a social setting. It is really fun to do all the stuff that we're not doing in bellydance, amd making it even bigger and over the top. We finished with a bit of stocking stripping which is much harder to do while looking elegant. In all, a very fun experience!
