I am bitten by the writing bug (again). Prompted by my four week break from my costuming blog, I decided to get back on the horse and write new costuming posts.

After that I send out a newsletter (yay!).

I then started planning my blogs for the next three months, and noticed Andalee's call for action for bellydance at any size. So I wrote an article for her first. It turned out quite nice, it's a personal story about my changing perception of bodysize in relation to bellydance. I like to write more of that type of stories.

And then I noticed how awesome my students look in the outfits I made for the student recital, and I thought 'wouldn't it be awesome to creat a pdf pattern that I can sell online?'. It's a top that can easily be made by beginners, with sleeves that don't need to be added seperately, it looks really cute.

Sure, digitizing the pattenr, making it ready for multi-size, writing the instructions, testing the pattern and actually publishing it is a hell of a lot of work. But it would be a product that 1. would actually sell, 2. can be sold for years and year and 3. once it's done, it's done. Have to ponder on this one some more.

Do you think there's a market for digital patterns for bellydance clothes? meaning you pay 7-8$, download the pdf, print and tape the pieces together and you're ready to go.

I just uploaded my costuming book (B/W, 85 pages) and the booklet (30 pages, 7 color, rest B/W) to try the Brave New Books publisher. Short notes:
-it only accepts manuscripts of 40+ pages
-options for editing your bookcover are limited but sufficient
-if you want to publish online, you need to buy an ISBN (13 euro), even if you already have one! No option for purchasing one by yourself (7 euro) are given.
- the price for my costuming book as e-book is roughly 9 euro with an okay margin, but thinks get expensive quickly with print books: the B/W book will cost app. 20 euro, while the 30 page booklet would cost 18 euro. Most of the cost is going to the publisher, website and ofcourse printing cost.

yay: I finished the first draft the thrity page booklet for beginning students and gave it to a test reader. It needs more artwork and some editing, but overall I am happy with how it turned out. Was planning on making it a freebie, but am now considering to hand out free hardcopies to new students and sell it on bol.com for a couple of euro's to see how the system works. (foreign readers: bol.com is the Dutch amazon.com, they allow users to publish written books through their online store)

nay: there is not enough time in this week.I am looking at second hand wardrobes with mirrors and I can't figure out the planning because it would not fit into our car. Right now, the process of asking my father in law or my own father to borrow his car alter this week, plus the whole idea of getting in a ca and driving is way into  my stress zone.

My first article is published in the Gilded Serpent!

Off to send an email to Jillina on the English article about the BDE show. Weehee!

BTW, I'm not to happy about some of the editorial changes because to e the article sounds abi judgemental on sevral points. Then again, that'swhat they want, so who cares?! Though the last pararaph could o with a bit ofclariyin: I wrote that I tink that the producers who are focused on dancers create good products too, but to beware of mass markted producers who tap into the BD craze.

The Dutch site is updated with an article about hotfix stones, the interview with Tribal Fusion group the Uzume is also online.

I also would like to congratulate the five dancers who graduated the 'pro bellydancer/teacher course' by Jamila in Eindhoven. Their theater piece 'Cascade' kept me on the edge of my seat and showed that all of them are excellent stage performers. One note: in the advertising the organiser claimed that the show would 'come to the public on a tour in several small theaters in Netherland and Belgium'. In reality, we had to travel over 2 hours to get to the nearest show (we started in Utrecht). If the organiser wants to expand her horizon and includes a venue somewhere in the center of the Netherlands, it would generate a lot of publicity and maybe more enrollments from dancers further away.
